Is solar energy viable as an alternative source of energy?
Solar projects are, by their nature, very capital intensive but have minimal operation and maintenance costs and, of course, no fuel cost. So, not only is solar energy, along with wind energy, viable as an alternative source of energy, it is crucial that we capitalize on these renewable sources of energy.
Benefits of Solar Energy
- Reduce or even eliminate your electricity bills
- Reduce Carbon emission and protect your environment
- Lesser dependancy on Grid
- Encouraging Green Energy
- Get Subsidies and Accelerated depreciation Benefits from Government
- Earn a great return on your investment
- Increase your property value
Cost Required for a setup
INR 60,000- 70,000 per KiloWatt as per MNRE Guidelines
Is it best for commercial to residential use?
Yes, beneficial for both commercial and residential. As commercial buildings as factory, complex, offices have more electricity consumption. So, by using Solar they can reduce their electricity Bill and get benefits. Even government also given AD benefits for those who install solar power plant by MNRE Channel Partners. Production of surplus electricity will be beneficial. Residential can generate their own electricity and consume it.
Still Having more questions and doubts?
Solar Zone power system’s pricing varies according to the location, size, government subsidies and local tariffs. Although there is likely to be substantial savings in your total electricity costs, it cannot be as such guaranteed. Get in touch for a detailed estimate and your requirements. On signing the contract 50% of the Payment needs to be paid. Balance after the completion of the project.
How does solar power work at night or when I’m not home?
Solar panels require sunlight to generate electricity for your home so they do not work in darkness. Thus – the simple answer to this question is no.
The confusion around solar working at night is often due to the concept of solar storage, which allows homes to still have energy supply at night.
How long do solar panels last?
Solar Panel life will depend on Solar Silicon Cells. Generally, Tier 1 SPV Panels have more than 25 years of Life. After 25 years PV Panels will generate electricity but with lower efficiency.

What is a REC?
Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) mechanism is a market-based instrument to promote renewable energy and facilitate compliance of renewable purchase obligations (RPO). It is aimed at addressing the mismatch between availability of RE resources in the state and the requirement of the obligated entities to meet the renewable purchase obligation (RPO).
What are solar inverters and how do they work?
Inverters perform two primary functions:
1) Convert solar DC power to AC power, which we use in our buildings
2) Area safety mechanism that shuts off the system when the grid goes down.
Convert Solar DC Power to AC Power
DC power coming from a solar panel is converted AC power, which is the type of power delivered by the utility and is used to power appliances, lighting, etc. In many cases, the inverter connects to the electric panel via a breaker within the panel.
This allows solar power to simply work as another source of energy in buildings and allows energy to be back-feed to the utility. When this happens, the meter spins backward, effectively storing excess energy in the daytime for later use.
Is there an app for my solar energy system?
Yes, ARUN (Atal Roof Top Solar User Navigator) Android App provided by MNRE ( Ministry of New and Renewable Energy) and Solar Calculator- Android App developed by ISRO ( Indian Space Research Organization).
How can I be prepared when the power goes out?
Make sure you can see! Even a small flashlight can make a huge difference. Consider a flashlight for your car, each bedroom, each bathroom and in your kitchen, garage, and one near your electrical panel and a couple spares (especially if you have kids who lose them). The power can go out when you don’t expect it – anywhere. Consider one for your key ring, your pocket and/or purse, and one at work. Think – Could you find your way out in pitch black with elevators not working at home or work or when traveling?
Candles or hurricane lamps are possible lighting source but keep in mind they create a fire risk and fresh air may be a problem if you are in a tightly sealed building. One advantage of candles and lamps is that they do provide heat, which is useful for cold climates.
A crank powered flashlight is great for kids and serves a double function as a flashlight and backup charger for emergencies. Plus you can get them relatively inexpensively.
Common Questions Answered
Should I buy or lease?
The main practical distinction between buying and leasing a solar PV system is in ownership. If you buy a solar panel system, you own the system, either outright (if purchasing with cash) or after repaying your Solar Loan. If you lease the system or sign a power purchase agreement (PPA), a third party owns the solar panel system.
This distinction impacts the cost, maintenance, terms, financial offsets, and savings/returns on investment of your solar panel system. In addition, not all companies offer solar leases and/or PPAs—confirm that your chosen provider offers the financing option that you want most. Note that PPAs are not legally permitted in many areas.
Do I need the regular source of power also in addition to solar?
What happens if I have to relocate?
Great question, as we know now that solar leases last around 20 years, and solar panels at least 25 years… and there is a good chance we’ll move in the next 20-years!
Of course each market will be slightly different, and it depends if you own or lease, but here’s the simplistic answer:
If you lease your system, you have a couple of options:
– Your buyer will need to assume your lease, although if this is still a good option for them, as it likely will be, they
will be interested in assuming the lease.
– You can also buy-out your lease from the provider at that point, and this should increase the sale price of your home.
If you own your home, it’s pretty simple:
– Solar installs increase the value of homes and reduce the time on market. So as long as your solar system is in good shape, this should make it easier and more profitable to sell your home.
Of course, you will hear horror stories of things gone wrong in selling a home with a solar lease or solar panels. However, if you have a marketable home and reasonable sales expectations and a good real estate broker, solar will be an asset, not a deterrent. This is the case in the vast majority of home sales. What is certain is that you will need to be aware of the solar, just as yosu would be prepared about questions regarding a pool or a recent remodel.
What is the warranty period and what are covered?
Generally speaking, the silicon wafers (encased in glass in your solar panels) will be the most durable, long-lived part of any panels that you ultimately purchase–provided there are no incidents that damage them. For this reason, power output warranties (also called performance warranties) ordinarily last between 25 and 35 years.
A warranty for your inverter is absolutely critical. Inverter warranties typically last for 5 to 10 years, although your installer may also offer extended warranties on request.
If you have a stand-alone system or a hybrid system, it will include batteries, which typically have warranties of 5-10 years.
Your installer may also warranty for the balance-of-system (non-panel components of your system) in order to cover miscellaneous issues with your systems, such as wiring, inverter, and batteries. Ask the installer about what is on offer.
How is the wiring done?
How long the power will last if there is no sunshine for 2 days?
Solar lights are easy to set up and require no electricity, making them a simple and eco-friendly addition to your outdoor landscaping. Cloudy days will interfere with these lights, however, slowing, though not stopping, their ability to charge. While solar lights and abilities vary by manufacturer, most are able to stay shining through the occasional cloudy day, though using them after long periods without adequate sunlight can eventually weaken their charging capabilities.
Will my AC and Motor work on Solar energy?
To conclude, if you have a lot of power cuts at your place and looking for a solution to run air conditioners during those periods, then Solar PV solution will work if the high cost is not a deterrent. But if electricity saving is your primary concern, then solar air conditioner offer lot more value for your money.
